The Chinese artist h0nh1m (Chris Chyong) created a meditative installation “Carbonscape”, which is dedicated to the problems of the technological track in the planet’s ecology and atmospheric pollution. Glass tube-bulbs, located in a black and white room, represent the pipes of numerous factories, which for more than two centuries pollute the air with carbon dioxide. Black balls, slowly rising and falling in transparent flasks, indicate a sharp increase in the concentration of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. The sound of the installation includes eighteen records of technological noises: the sound of the exhausted steam, engine noise, the steamer’s whistle and so on.
In this quiet atmosphere with monotonous sounds, lack of color and rhythmic movement of balls in the flasks, the artist suggests visitors think about the fate of the planet and our impact on its ecology.
