South Pacific’s ‘paradise islands’ coming to Shanghai

This year’s Oceanic Island Nations Cultural Event intends to build on the 2017 South Pacific Island Nations Cultural Event and promote “interconnection and travel first” between Shanghai and the South Pacific Island nations.

To be held this coming weekend at the main entrance of Jing’an Park, all visitors are welcome to explore the island nations’ origins and beauty. Images and documentary films will be presented during the opening day of the event, revealing the sights, sounds, smells and stories of its people.

Students from the island nations will sing and dance based on the islands’ cultural characteristics and create a simple atmosphere of returning to nature.

At the same time, the “Culture in Action” performance by both Chinese and foreign performers features a blending of cultures through music.

Co-organized by the New Zealand Consulate General in Shanghai, the Consulate General of the Republic of Fiji in Shanghai and the Shanghai Jing’an Tourism Bureau, the event aims to build a broad platform for international cultural exchange and understanding.

Over the course of the event, audiences will get an all-round appreciation of the charm of the “paradise islands,” which are known as “bright pearls embedded in the vast blue ocean.”
